Everyone who attends Mass is asked to fully participate in the Liturgy, consciously and actively. Active participation means listening carefully, responding meaningfully, singing robustly, and allowing our spirits to be nourished through the Eucharist. It also means that we are Christ to one another in the Mass; we become Christ to one another when we treat each other with love, respect, and caring.
Liturgical Ministers have a special opportunity to be Christ to those assembled by their acts of service within the Mass. By welcoming as ushers, proclaiming the Word as lectors, serving at the altar as altar servers, preparing the needed items for Mass as a Sacristan, and imitating Christ in sharing communion as Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, liturgical ministers are Christ present sacramentally.
This Lent, our parish Liturgical Commission will hold a time of renewal and training for all who desire to continue or learn to be Liturgical Ministers at the Church of the Nativity.
Please come to one of these 4 Formation sessions:
Saturday, February 28, 9:00 am
Wednesday, March 4, 9:00 am
Thursday, March 5, 6:00 pm
Tuesday, March 10, 6:00 pm
These sessions will be held in the Church and will include a theological lesson on the Mass and Lay Ministry by Fr. Jerry, the importance and meaning of nonverbal communication during the Mass and training on the scheduling system that is used at Nativity and how we will be checking in before every Mass, and training in all individual ministries listed above.
After these formation sessions, all those who have attended will receive a
Commissioning at the weekend Masses during the Easter season.
