During Lent, we will sing the Sanctus (Holy) and Agnus Dei (Lamb of God) in Latin. Catholics across the country and throughout the world sing these same melodies in Latin, even as most parish communities (like Nativity) worship in their native language. The word “catholic” means universal. By singing these beautiful, universally known melodies, we are drawn into deeper unity with our Catholic brothers and sisters at home and abroad as we unite ourselves to Christ in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.
There is nothing more joyful than hearing God’s holy people – the Body of Christ – sing and pray with one voice! To help us sing and pray with confidence, please use the recordings below to learn and review these acclamations. The Latin text is displayed onscreen, along with the English translation in smaller print.
In addition to the Latin Sanctus and Agnus Dei, we will sing the Memorial Acclamation in English (Save us, Savior of the world), and a simple two-note Amen sung a cappella (without accompaniment). Recordings for Memorial Acclamation and the Amen are also included below.
