Dcn. Rickert is excited to offer a summer course open to all on the Sacred Scriptures!
Schedule: He will offer the same lesson twice a week, once on Tuesdays 7-8pm and once on Wednesdays 12-1pm. The course will begin Tuesday, June 16 & Wednesday, June 17. There will be no class the following week (June 23 & 24) as Dcn. Rickert will be out of town. The second session of class will resume June 30 & July 1.
Location: St. Joseph Room
Sign-Up: Because the summer can be an unpredictable time, it would be a great help to Dcn. Rickert if those planning to attend would rsvp through this online Sign-Up. If less than 5 people are signed up 24 hours before the scheduled session, that session will be cancelled.
Approach/Environment: Each session will consist of:
1). A presentation from Dcn. Rickert on a particular topic of Sacred Scripture
2). Small group breakouts for application of the lesson to a particular Scripture passage
3). Discussion of the experience of #2 with the larger group.
Meant to be a casual and fun environment--feel free to bring your lunch or dinner! And BYOB (Bring Your Own Bible).
Week 1 Topic: The Four Senses of Scripture: Explore with Dcn. Rickert the four lenses through which we can view any given passage of Sacred Scripture. This ancient technique was used even by the New Testament writers themselves, was first formally identified as early as St. John Cassian in the early 400s, and is highlighted by the Catechism as foundational for understanding Sacred Scripture.
